South Staffordshire Council should reject turbines plan

UKIP MEP Mike Nattrass has called on members of the community to write to South Staffordshire Council and object to controversial plans to develop a wind farm near a picturesque village.

The MEP, who is standing as UKIP’s Prospective Parliamentary Candidate in South Staffordshire, has issued a rallying cry to the people of South Staffordshire urging them to express opposition to the Marston wind farm scheme.

Under the plans six 420ft high wind turbines could be erected in Marston to the dismay of worried villagers who fear the rural beauty of the area would be blighted by the masts.

turbine protest

In October, members of the Stop Turbines Action Group (STAG) campaign met Mr Nattrass at the European Parliament in Strasbourg and following the meeting the UKIP MEP said he would back their fight against the turbines.

Now, Mr Nattrass has supported protesters in their calls for people to support their fight by writing to South Staffordshire Council.

“It is clear from the backlash from residents that these turbines are not wanted,” said Mr Nattrass this week.

“I would urge people in South Staffordshire to write to the local authority and call for the plans to be scrapped.

“South Staffordshire Council should listen to the people who fear the turbines will destroy the local environment,” he said.

This week, Mr Nattrass also urged Stafford Borough Council to reject plans to build a 200 foot wind turbine in Aston By Stone. The plan, which will be considered by the local authority on Wednesday, envisage erecting a temporary wind monitoring mast on land at Aston Hall Farm.

The plan has been recommended for approval by council officers despite strong opposition from residents.

Tony Skelton, vice chairman of the STAG campaign, said: “These wind masts (proposed for Marston) are extremely expensive and are noisy.

“They are incredible eyesores and the upheaval involved in their installation is enormous.”
